Nils Christie has the idea to view “Conflicts as Property” as a factor to investigate the process of the criminal justice system. Christie 's idea is that criminology to some extent has amplified a process where conflicts have been taken away from the parties directly involved and thereby have either disappeared or become other peoples property (christie, pg. 1).

This summary will further examine and comply with Christie’s perception, that conflict can be seen as property. Finally, the Swedish government has begun to abolish criminal institutes and lower prisons to combat the dubious social consequences of of criminology and the process at which conflicts become property (Christie, 1977). This is in direct relation with Christie's suggestion to abolish institutes rather than to open them. Nils Christie states that conflicts should be the property of the involved parties but that in western societies conflicts have been taken from the involved parties’ possession. Nils Christie educates society on the concept of viewing conflicts as property and the ways in which this has impacted individuals and the legal system. It is the position of this essay that one can agree with Christie in the perception that conflicts can be viewed as property.
